| The National
Weather Service (NWS) issues Red Flag Warnings &
Fire Weather Watches to alert fire service agencies of the onset,
or possible onset, of critical weather and fuel moisture conditions
that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity.
This could be due to low relative humidity, strong winds, dry fuels,
the possibility of dry lightning strikes, or any combination thereof.
If the NWS believes that weather conditions could exist in the next
12-72 hours which may result in extreme fire behavior, they will
notify the fire service of a fire
weather watch. A red
flag warning is issued for events that will occur
within 24 hours. |
